Sleep in the original General Store at Dunton, a perfectly restored log cabin with its own private outdoor hot spring in the back with a splendid view of the surrounding mountains. The home includes a king bed, two full beds in the loft, a dressing area, a large full bathroom with tub, and a wood burning stove. Filled with film memorabilia, this historic house is a tribute to the American West.
You can also choose to stay at the more rustic, secluded Dunton River Camp, a luxury tented camp that sits on a 500 acre former cattle ranch and is comprised of eight tents and a farmhouse. Open only from June to mid-October, Dunton River Camp sleeps up to 16 people.
Some of the activities offered at Dunton include horseback riding in the high Rockies, fly fishing on the Dolores River, hiking or mountaineering in the San Juans, mountain biking, rafting, and much more. Or just relax in the magnificent setting with outdoor yoga, massages, and of course soaking for hours in the natural hot springs under an edgeless sky.
Some of North America’s most evocative archaeological sites are just a short drive away. Take a road trip from the haunting beauty of Monument Valley and Canyon de Chelly, deep in the Navajo Reservation, through the sculpted wilderness of the ”Valley of the Gods” to the resort’s own vineyard in McElmo Canyon.
