Zanzibar is a tropical paradise, a buzzing capital of culture, a place aptly called the “Spice Island,” and a photographer’s dream. Escape and bliss out and relax completely at a secluded resort on the water or a private island hideaway – the epitome of barefoot luxury. Private sunset sails on a dhow, snorkeling and scuba diving are some of our favorite activities. Utter relaxation can easily be paired with more cosmopolitan explorations on the same trip. Stone Town, the historic and cultural center on Zanzibar’s main island, is full of cobblestone streets, gorgeous historic carved wooden doors, and bustling markets. Every February, the annual Sauti za Busara music festival turns the experience up a notch. As an autonomous region of Tanzania, this archipelago just off the coast of East Africa is a hop, skip and jump from a classic Big Five safari experience in the Serengeti.
